ABSTRACT

The focus of this work was manpower development and workers productivity (a case study of Akwa Ibom State polytechnic, Ikot Ekpene). The work had the following objectives: To set out strategies to be adopted by workers in order to achieve the basic objective and to find out if the right people are assign to their right job. Also it has the following hypothesis, whether there are any significant strategies to be adopted by the workers in Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic in order to achieve the basic objective and also whether there is any significant relationship between the workers job and the management. The study utilized survey and correlation coefficient as statistical tools for analysis. Based on this, the following major findings were made. The management does not look at the man power development sector in order to achieve organizational goals through providing means by which people can grow in their job. The work concluded that the management should embark on proper planning and utilization of its available resources in productivity of workers and for effective management and development in the organization. Also, the work recommended that training of both old and new staff should be embarked on more serious training so as to bring increase in technology.

INTRODUCTION

1.1      BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

An organization requires specialized personnel in all fields who are trained in order to achieve its set goals and objective. Therefore, training could be seen as an act of educating, instructing, which could enhance one’s given ability to perform more competently in one’s given field of specialization. This training involves the knowledge of managerial,   technical, scientific and other skills which can be employed for creating, operating and maintaining the various areas of activities in an organization.
